Pueblo Candlelight Vigil
To Protest Hate Crime
The Southern Colorado Equality Alliance will hold a candlelight vigil at the steps of Pueblo's County Courthouse on Wednesday, April 18 th at 6:00 pm. All concerned Puebloans are invited to attend this vigil.
This vigil will honor Anthony Hergesheimer, Pueblo's most recent hate crime victim, who will receive an honorary award for standing-up to his perpetrators by reporting their crime. Anthony is a 15 year old teen who was assaulted by five other teen males and left beaten. He suffered injuries requiring hospitalization and emergency surgery in early April. All this for merely being himself.
This candlelight vigil is held in conjunction with a commonly known holiday called "Silent Wednesday" which celebrates overcoming forced silence by victims of hate-crimes against the gays lesbian, bisexual, and trans-gender community. The Day of Silence is an annual event held to bring attention to anti-LGBT bullying, harassment and discrimination in schools. Students and teachers nationwide will observe the day in silence to echo the silence that LGBT and ally students face everyday. In it's 11th year, the Day of Silence is one of the largest student-led actions in the country
Additional support for Anthony Hergesheimer may be made directly to the family on the evening of the gathering, or by contacting Andrew with ClubMale at 542-1345 or Anthony with the Southern Colorado Equality Alliance at 545-4970.
The Pueblo County Courthouse is located at the corner of Main and 10th Streets in downtown Pueblo.

February 2007 - John Mark and Rod at the annual Valentines Day Marriage Equality Recognition. Each year on Valentines Day, people around the nation go and apply for a marriage license and of course are denied, but the event sheds light on the issue of the inequality that GLBTI people face everyday. So mark your calendars for 2008!
